Distribution of State Funds:
 Legislative hearings on the stimulus proposal, HB 645,  are starting in March. Public testimony is accepted.   For the latest updates and schedule, see MNA's State Policy site.

Nonprofit Shovel Ready Projects: Last month, the Listening Post Project did a survey on the nonprofit sector's shovel ready projects.  You can read the national report, check out MNA's "shovel-ready" fact sheet or check out raw data for every state.

Contacting Lawmakers: In late February, MNA sent a letter to Governor Schweitzer and other national and state lawmakers highlighting the importance the nonprofit sector in economic recovery.  Please take a moment to read the letter and fact sheet.

As money is being distributed at the federal level, President Obama has committed to an open, transparent process.  You can track all federal spending at www.recovery.gov

Tracking Spending: state  Keeping in line with the message of transparency, Governor Schweitzer has created a new site http://recovery.mt.gov to track Montana stimulus spending.

State Oversight Proposals:   Both the Montana House and Montana Senate have ideas on ways to oversee the money coming to the state.  The Senate proposal is SB 460, a bill to set up a 13-member commisssion to oversee state spending. The House bill, HB 627 will grant oversight authority to the Legislative Finance Committee

Indpendent Oversight: Onvia, a Seattle-based, public company that tracks all spending at every level government launched Recovery.org March 31, 2009 to track all American Recovery and Reinvestment Act spending by federal, state and local government agencies.
