Principles and Best Practices
for Montana Nonprofits

Welcome to the future site of both Principles and Best Practices for Montana Nonprofits (PBPMTN) and MNA’s web-based professional and organizational development program and resources.

What are Principles and Best Practices for Montana Nonprofits? In its most fundamental form, PBPMTN is a special publication containing a collection of nonprofit guiding principles, legal requirements and recommended practices for managing effective nonprofits in Montana. This publication, when complete, will also serve as the foundation for MNAs professional and organizational development opportunities, resources and services in the future.

Currently, we are in the process of finalizing the PBPMTN publication and its content is open for public comment through May, 2008. We welcome and encourage your participation in our survey and have provided a few items below to answer your questions and better prepare you for understanding the publication and completing the survey.

Instructions for taking the survey

  1. Read the FAQs below and review the graphic illustrating the future of MNA's organizational development program.
  2. Read the DRAFT Principles and Best Practices for Montana Nonprofits’ document and record notes and comments you wish to share in the survey (this will expedite the completion of the survey).
  3. Click the survey link and login (instructions are found on the welcome page).

Special Note: The PBPMTN document is in draft format and is not available for adoption, reproduction, or distribution. See below for a link to the survey

A Note of Thanks

We are deeply grateful for the help of several leaders in Montana’s nonprofit sector who served as members of our Advisory Council and helped us to develop the draft document. Please take a look at the list linked below for the names of these fine individuals. We are also grateful for the financial assistance we received from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and the Steele-Reese Foundation to launch this project.
