A Message from MNA Board of Directors: MNA Group Benefit Trust to End Coverage April 30

Group Benefit Trust
Montana Nonprofit Association’s health insurance organization, the MNA Group Benefits Trust (GBT), has made health insurance available to our members since 2003. Most recently, the GBT covered 830 nonprofit employee lives and 300+ dependents with health benefits.
The MNA Board, upon the recommendation of the Board of Trustees for the GBT, recently made the hard decision to dissolve the Trust. The GBT has been able to weather the ups and downs of the past eighteen years by being innovative and responsive to constant change. Unfortunately, the Trust has become financially unviable over the course of the last several months as a result of several months of a high number of extraordinary health claims outstripping the premiums collected, drawing down the necessary reserve to an unacceptable level.

The GBT’s consulting partnerLeavitt Great West, is working to help each of the GBT’s 30 groups move to new coverage by April 30, when the GBT is no longer in place.

MNA GBT is a separate legal entity from MNA, a subsidiary organization with a separate board. The dissolution does not impact MNA’s stability. But it’s disappointing for many reasons, most of all to know that the GBT is unable to continue offering such a needed resource to Montana’s nonprofits.

Please reach out to the MNA staff team if you have questions.
