Montana Nonprofit Association is excited to welcome Maya Miller, an AmeriCorps VISTA serving with Montana Campus Compact, to our team. Over the next year, Maya will work to build career opportunities for Montana college graduates within the state.
The goal of the project is to increase graduation rates and post-graduation success of low income, first generation, and non-traditional college students by engaging them in community-based learning opportunities and professional development through a credentialing program. This initiative aims to engage our next generation of leaders in the nonprofit sector and provide students and higher education faculty with the tools and resources needed to promote stronger, and more sustainable communities.
Maya will assess successful academic service-learning programs, promote these programs to targeted students, nonprofits, and educational institutions as well as work with 30 nonprofits statewide to develop credentialing opportunities and develop Montana’s first statewide database to place, track, and support students in service learning opportunities in nonprofits.
Maya comes to us by way of New York, New York after recently graduating from Fordham University with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Maya brings an array of skills and experiences to MNA such as community organization, youth development, and grant writing. Maya looks forward to exploring the beautiful state of Montana and spending time getting to know the community she serves!
We look forward to working with Maya and embarking on this innovative project to connect Montana students to service learning.
