And here’s why Census 2020 matters so much in Montana:
- Federal, state, and local governments use census data to determine how tax dollars are spent.
- Montana receives more than $2 billion in federal funds for highways, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and more.
- For each person counted, Montana receives $1,989 in federal funds. Over the course of a decade, that’s nearly $20,000 per person.
- The data collected shows geographic areas that are underserved, which informs nonprofit service delivery.
- Data collected and published is used to inform grant proposals.
- Census data defines legislature districts and school district areas in Montana.
- If all of us are counted, Montana could gain another congressperson.
- Taking part in the Census is our civic duty. It’s a way to participate in our democracy and say, “We all count!”
